Manufacturers sometimes ask the question “biosourced vs fossil?” or even “the LCA results of the bio-based molecule are not so great! Why?”.

 

Why training in biobased inputs and their environmental impact?

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to biobased molecules and their environmental assessment. 
 

You’ll learn about the different types of biomass, the three generations of inputs, and perspectives on available quantities, uses of biomass and bio-based molecules and the main existing chains. 
 

This module will also enable you to understand the basics of carbon accounting, in particular the distinction between biogenic and fossil carbon, and the benchmarks used to assess greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions linked to these inputs.
Concrete examples to illustrate the Product Carbon Footprint of some of these molecules and understand the wide variability and sometimes elusive benefits, and an approach to the requirements for a virtuous use of biomass (eco-design, agricultural practices, securing the upstream value chain, transparency…).
 

The systemic and multi-criteria approaches call for consideration of the product’s entire life cycle, as well as its various impacts: water resources, land use, soil acidification, etc.
