Carbon footprint

What is Carbon Assesment?

It is a method developed by the French Environment and Energy Management Agency (ADEME) and the Bilan Carbone Association (ABC), aimed at implementing an evaluation and reduction process for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for a company, organization, or event.

It can be used to respond to a call for Request of Proposals (RFP), a tender, or a public procurement contract, to name a few.
The method is based on a tool that is regularly updated to provide results according to key standards such as the GHG Protocol, regulatory reporting, CDP, or ISO 14064.

What is the purpose of Carbone Assesment?

Your Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Assessment is the main tool for managing GHG emissions. It organizes data collection and enables quantification, which helps structure the development of a prioritized action plan.

How does a Carbon Assesment assignment work?

A Carbon Assessment (also called Carbon footprint or Green House Gas Balance) typically takes between 3 to 9 months, depending on its complexity, and follows a standard sequence:

  • Definition of the study scope: This includes understanding the company’s issues, mapping out the flows, and selecting the reference year, as well as data collection.
  • Data analysis and calculation of associated GHG emissions.
  • Presentation of the results and development of an action plan.

It is possible to conduct a subsidized GHG Assessment through BPI France and ADEME, known as the Diag Décarbon’action

Emission Factors and Product Carbon Footprint (PCF)

For many industries and companies, one of the biggest challenges in ensuring the relevance of the Carbon Assessment (GHG Protocol or Bilan Carbone® eg) is the emissions factors (or upstream carbon impact) of inputs—goods and services. In addition to access to the largest global databases, we rely on specific internal resources:

C2B2: An internal database listing the carbon weights of several hundred chemical molecules.

**    SSCI**: A database that compiles emissions factors for critical goods and services in the industry (e.g., machinery, packaging).

The Product Carbon Footprint (PCF), also known as “cradle-to-gate,” represents all the GHG emissions produced during the manufacturing process. As experts in the industrial and chemical sectors, we can calculate contextualized PCFs for your chemical products based on normative standards (ISO 14067) or industry standards (TfS, Together For Sustainability).

The PCF is a complementary tool for communicating with your clients, supporting innovation efforts, and facilitating emissions reductions in your value chain. Contact us now to discuss further.
