Adapting to climate Change

Adapting to Climate risks

It was just before COP21 in 2015 when Henri de Castries, then president of AXA, the world’s largest insurer, explained that “a 2°C world could still be insurable, but a 4°C world certainly would not be.” The climate is changing. Climate commitment places the financial sustainability of organizations within a broader framework. Adapting to climate change addresses the same imperatives as mitigating greenhouse gas emissions.

HazClim® methodology

This simple and pragmatic method, developed by Rong Yi Solutions, is inspired by the principles of industrial risk management (HazOp). It allows for understanding adaptation as an additional dimension of risk management.

  • First, we assess the impact of climate on the operations at your sites. This exposure is measured using a probability/consequences matrix.
  • Next, we work with your teams to create an analysis of possible resilience strategies to reduce the impact of climate change and weather-related hazards on your activities.

A multi-level offer

HazClim® is a method supported by software tools that enable organizations to address climate risk and adaptation. To tackle this topic in an agile, measured, and adaptive manner, we have developed three pathways:

HazClim® Express: A 0.5 to 2-day assessment to evaluate the organization’s “climate” sensitivity, highlighting associated risks and opportunities.

HazClim® Initial: A 2 to 5-day workshop series to understand the organization’s activities and identify risk scenarios, followed by a budget for 20 consulting days to co-develop a climate risk and resilience matrix.

HazClim® Resilience: A more comprehensive effort to assess climate exposure, considering additional scenarios, conducting in-depth work on resilience planning and addressing governance to ensure the sustainability of the approach.

HazClim® PHY: Focuses on assessing risks and their impacts in terms of financial implications and the safety of personnel and facilities.

HazClim® TRO: Allows for the consideration of transitional risks arising from societal responses to climate change.

Train your teams to adapt to climate change

Various training formats are available based on your needs. The AdACC workshop can introduce the climate risk analysis method using a specific example related to your activity, while our masterclasses are ideal for deep-diving into the topic tailored for your value chain.
